June 7th is CBC 5th Anniversary & Caribbean Heritage Month Celebration

Background
This event will be held to celebrate two important milestones in the lives of people in the Caribbean Diaspora.

  • 12th Year of Caribbean Heritage Month
  • 5th Year Anniversary of Caribbean Business Connections

In June 2005, the House of Representatives unanimously adopted H. Con. Res. 71, recognizing the significance of Caribbean people and their descendants in the history and culture of the United States.  Since the declaration, the White House has issued an annual proclamation recognizing June as Caribbean-American Heritage Month. This year marks the eighth anniversary of June as National Caribbean American Heritage Month. 

In June 2012, Caribbean Business Connections, CBC, was founded by Sandra McCarty and Hanif Russell to fill the need for effective business networking among people in the Caribbean Diaspora.  CBC’s mission is to provide a networking platform to its members where they can connect, aspire and achieve. Members are make the right business connections, meet their next client and identify resources that help them become more successful.

Time: 6 PM – 9 PM
Where: Royal Chateau, 247-11 Francis Lewis Blvd, Rosedale, NY

This event will be done in collaboration with various Caribbean associations, Caribbean business organizations, Caribbean chambers commerce, and local Caribbean civic associations. We will showcase various aspects of Caribbean culture – food, art, music and dance as well as facilitate business networking.

JINW 2016, CBC CELEBRATES 4 YEARS OF WORKING WITH SMALL BUSINESSES IN THE CARIBBEAN DIASPORA

CBC celebrates 4 years of working with small business owners to connect them with their prospective customers and to provide them with the necessary expertise to grow their business. On June 1st CBC marked the occasion with a well-attended celebratory business networking event presented by AT&T. This event was used to formally recognize the contributions made by various persons and organizations that helped CBC to achieve level of success it has thus far.

Guest Speaker, Brandon V Ray, Regional Director of External Affairs (Long Island) for AT&T spoke from the heart connecting in a real way with his audience. Even though Brandon represented corporate American, being an African American and a native of Hempstead a predominantly black town in Long Island, he was able to identify with the experience of the Caribbean Diaspora. Brandon spoke about the various programs that AT&T has for small businesses and for the minority communities. One such program is the Global Diversity Supplier program where the goal is to connect certified diverse businesses with opportunities to provide products and services to AT&T.

CBC’s 4th Anniversary celebration at the South Beach like setting of Magnet Sports and Entertainment Lounge in Elmont NY, allowed for great networking among the business owners and professionals that turned out. Some of the top Caribbean owned and operated restaurants in the Queens and Long Island area served up their delicious, finger licking signature dishes making this a celebration an occasion to excite the taste buds. These restaurants, part of the CBC Partner Restaurants, were Pa-Nash Euro Soul Restaurant owned by Annette and Titus Runcie; Spices Negril Restaurant & Lounge owned by Dana and Jeff Bacchas; G’s Restaurant & Bar owned by Lesa Willie and L’Antillaise at Franklin Caterers owned by Jude Ellie and Lesley Pardo.

From all the reports CBC’s 4th anniversary event was a success with attendees making meaningful connections and having a great time. Thanks to the CBC 4th Anniversary Planning Committee Lesli Jones, Leva Mahmood, Ray Thomas, Kyle Griffith and Hanif Russell for all their efforts in making this such a great event.

At the 4th Anniversary Celebration, CBC will roll out a number of new programs focused on developing and strengthening the small business as well as the Caribbean community at large On such program is the CBC Business Directory Listing which is a free listing of all the companies and professionals that are in CBC’s network. This will be the go to place to find a Caribbean professional when you need it. Your Caribbean banker, accountant, plumber, landscaper, painter, financial services advisor, attorneys, printer, marketing services provider etc. Each listing will have the company name, contact person, phone number and services provided with a live link to their website. CBC Business Directory Listing will become a key resource in our efforts to support our Caribbean owned businesses.

2016 Caribbean Leadership Breakfast & Recognition Ceremony
On Friday, April 29th 7:30am to 10am Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano in conjunction with Caribbean Business Connections will host its annual Caribbean Leadership Breakfast. This event is used to highlight those business persons, community leaders and outstanding professionals who have made worthwhile contributions to the community they live in work in and or serve.

Nassau County Sponsored WMBE Certification Presentation

On September 17, 2015 CBC and Hempstead Chamber of Commerce partnered with Nassau County to put on a workshop for women and minority business owners. Timothy Williams, Chairman, Nassau County Industrial Development Agency was the Master of  Ceremonies for the workshop, with the keynote address was given by Hon. Edward P. Mangano,, Nassau County Executive.
