The importance of volunteerism has been underscored by leading telecommunications provider Flow, as the company recently celebrated its annual Mission Week with a series of events in support of the theme “Learning, Environment, Access and Disaster Relief”.
“Flow has been connecting Barbadian communities for more than a century, so a core element of our annual Mission Week is to give back to those very same communities we serve,” said Jenson Sylvester, Country Manager, Flow Barbados.
As part of celebrations for Mission Week, employees took part in a tree-planting initiative with the Walkers Institute for Regenerative Research, Education and Design (WIRRED) as work continues on restoring the ecological health of the Walkers Quarry in St Andrew.
The company’s partnership with WIRRED follows a US$100, 000 grant from the Cable & Wireless Charitable Foundation (CWCF) to help the local non-profit with education outreach while achieving its goal of planting 285, 000 trees – or ‘one tree for every Bajan’.
“The foundation was established in 2017 by Cable & Wireless Communications and since then, we have been partnering with organisations across the region to help with important recovery and sustainability programmes,” added Sylvester.
Further focusing on the environment and sustainability, employees also took part in a clean-up at Pebbles Beach and assisted St Giles Primary School with restoring their outdoor recreational space.
In addition, some employees also donated tablets to deserving primary school children and the team at Flow Business presented ten hand sanitiser dispensers to Welches Primary School.
This week, give-back initiatives continue with Customer Appreciation Week with several prizes and surprises in-store.
