Losing the bid for Barbados’ Harrison’s Cave should be a learning experience for locals who tossed their hat in the ring, not just a tragic or unfortunate end result and outcome.

DLP 1st Vice President and Spokesperson on Business and Entrepreneurship Ryan Walters wants this to be an opportunity for local business persons to learn and grow for next time.

He said:

“What were the areas where the local entities fell down in the proposal phase?

“Harrison’s Cave is a priceless National Treasure in an ecologically sensitive and protected area. This is no time for shadow boxing; the Government needs to just come clean on this issue once and for all.”

He made the point that in most instances, the bidders may also run other attractions and gaining this knowledge would only bolster their confidence managing their own while putting them in a better position if a similar opportunity comes up in the future.

“Clearly this information can be used to help them to up their game since they manage various other attractions throughout the country,” said Walters.

News that Jamaica’s Chukka Caribbean Adventures won of the four bids in the final round to manage the day-to-day business of Caves of Barbados Limited, namely Harrison’s Cave, came to light this week. The arrangement is set to commence in December 2020.
